'I'm ready for you to show off your combat skills!'
You explain that a Mariner leans on basic attacks like Thrust to deal damage and shift your balance fore-ward. Tegwyn nods.
'Interesting. Well, let's see it! That's what the training dummy is for!'0/1

'That was all right, I guess. But surely you have more powerful attacks at your disposal?'
You explain that a Mariner can first use En Garde to increase the power of Thrust. When you use a Swordplay skill like En Garde, you gain a bonus to your next Swordplay skill. Each Swordplay skill will give a bonus to a small number of other skills, so you should use them carefully in order to maximize their effectiveness. On its own, En Garde will simply refresh your Steady buff, but it will improve Thrust, if Thrust is the next Swordplay skill you use.

'That was a decent show, I suppose.'
Tegwyn struggles to suppress any show of excitement.
'One more! Show me one more skill of yours, and make it incredible!'
You consider what you should demonstrate to Tegwyn. Dramatic Flourish is a Finisher Swordplay skill which gives a potent Critical Hit buff. This damaging Swordplay finisher requires you to be in a fore-ward state of Balance, which you can achieve by using offensive skills. Or perhaps you could demonstrate Feint, which is a quick reaction that provides unique Swordplay bonuses. Or you might show off Thrum of the Sea, which dazes your target, preventing them from moving or using skills, as long as they are not awoken by taking damage.

'That was pretty good, I suppose....
'Fine! You've upheld your side of our bargain, Player, and I will do the same. Here's Madthrug's weapon, as I promised. You'll bring it back to that Ranger for me, I expect? Mother and father will be pleased, but I still say I could have handled such a weapon!'0/1
